V2 Upgrade pack - complement or replacement
V2 Upgrade pack - complement or replacement Posted on [20/01/2023] à 14:23

I have been searching for an answer here but can not find it. Sorry if i have missed it.

I have had HON v1 laying on my shelf for a long time. I though about trying it again and bought the V2 upgrade pack. I see that this is pretty much all the punchboards from the Big Red One (no dice, decks or order blocks)

My question is now: Should the platoons, terrain pieces etc. in the V2 package replace the same ones from V1 or should they be combined?

Is there a list of what from V1 that should be left out?

Hello,

The new units replace the one of the V1.

But you can combine V1 and V2, for example to play more than two players scenario (that is why the lieutenants and high comands names are different).

The terrain pieces are exacly the same, only units change (color of bands different), heroes corresponding to the V1 "Kelly's heroes".

The Heroes are actually different than the ones from the Kelly's Heroes pack… But that is a side issue 🙂 Overall, I would replace all the older Heroes for their new versions, since they have the same cost but generally add an option slot for at least a Customization.

As guitho1974 pointed out, the units are "replacements", but you can keep all of them. If you do, then you can just use whichever V1 units you need for an older scenario, while using the BRO units in a newer scenario. That way you don't need the V1-to-V2 conversion table 🙂

If you did not get the new decks, then keep using the old ones, just ignore the old Artillery and Aviation rules unless you are playing an older scenario that uses them. You will have to deal with modifying the deck before a scenario to remove cards that have no function for the scenario (such as taking out the Repair card if you don't have any Heavy Vehicles in your army for the scenario). Since the new V2 decks from BRO use Alternate Bonuses on such "corner case" cards, there is no longer a deck management step written in the newer scenarios so you will have to spend a minute and manage the decks yourself.

But I think you will find the new rulebook quite a bit better to use for learning the game and playing that you would the 1st edition rulebook.

In any case, enjoy your games!
