Keep Compendium Rulebook
Keep Compendium Rulebook Posted on [02/03/2023] à 16:46

Since I have stacked up an almost eyerthing for HoN 1st ed. and Im now doing the same with the 2nd ed. Im gonna sell of my first ed. so out of a rules perspective, is there any point in keeping the compenium rulebook?

Keep Compendium Rulebook Posted on [02/03/2023] à 17:54

Just my opinion, but I'd say "no."

While the scenarios and reference cards that came with it will always be worth having, the game has evolved since the Compendium was published.

I'm hoping for a new "master rulebook" as part of the Heroes of the Pacific campaign.

…and congratulations on the collection!

Within the compendium are also the rule for using trains, fighting at night (although also contained in the expansion rule booklets). I would keep it as I find it very helpful

If you are going to get rid of all your 1st edition stuff, then I suppose not… You won't need rules for all the things not in 2nd Edition, such as Directives (just off the top of my head due to a recent discussion of the Army boxes).

I find it easier to have the rules all in one place, just for another point of view.

It really has not evolved that much. The changes can fit on 4 pages (2 reference cards). About equivalent to a different color fur for a cat 🙂

And as I said before, I don't think you are going to see a "Master Rulebook" for everything in HoP…for various reasons.

After all, where you count "Master Rulebook" varies by all the many players of the various styles of HSTS games — Some want SoN included, some want HoBR included, some want only HoN, etc.

Good points, and good to know that we're unlikely to see another Compendium as part of the HoP campaign.

Looks like it's worth keeping after all.

Keep Compendium Rulebook Posted on [05/03/2023] à 03:55

I should add: There is even an envelop in the Compendium Sleeve that is perfect for holding those couple of reference cards so you can keep it all easily to-hand 🙂

Do you know if the different rulebooks of the 2nd edition exist in PDF version ?

There is a WIP version of the BRO rules available in the Downloads section, as well as an updated Scenario Book to fix some of the map issues in the printed copy.

Unfortunately, they are not currently available.

it would be a nice thing to have most updated versions of the rules and scenario books to download 🙂

but the errata stickers sent in Caen are an absolutely incredible thing 😮 I'd never seen anything like that before… well done DPG!!!

The Compendium not only includes rules for Trains (useful for Road & Rails), but also the optional Morale System (from Gazette #6) and a set of rules for dealing with fires (from the Pointe du Hoc rules) useful if you ever use Flamethrower units and want the added environmental challenges that go with it as well.

The book covers not only fighting at night, but Fog, Dawn, Clear vs Dark Night, and Desert sun, although the last is very niche, at least for now.

"Directives"?!? What are they?

Keep Compendium Rulebook Posted on [08/03/2023] à 10:17

Directives are little bonuses provided by Order Options. They were available in the old Army Boxes. They work a little like Alternate Bonuses but more restrictive.

See the triangle-shaped tokens on the punchboard below (bottom right).

Such a tease.

Though I know it's probably still several years away, I think Heroes of Africa will be brilliant.

It is a system used often in Gazettes (#3,4,5,7), although each Gazette includes the rules for those Directives.

The 4th/7th/1stSS Armored packs have vehicle-specific Directives, while the Army Boxes have Infantry Directives.

Related to this topic: is there an errata file for the Compendium?

Keep Compendium Rulebook Posted on [18/03/2023] à 09:28

There is not, but there is a thread which collects known errors. Let me look it up.

EDIT: Here it is:
