The Devil Pig news: Big Red One Edition!

Hello Soldiers!

Today we tell you more about how the Big Red One Edition has become an obvious choice for us:

No mission is too difficult, no sacrifice is too great, the mission above all“.

Why the Big Red One? At Devil Pig we asked ourselves which American division would lead the offensive in this second edition of Heroes of Normandie… well, we simply asked Eisenhower himself. His answer was frank and direct: “I will never make the invasion of Normandie without these sons of bitches of the Big Red One“, he told us. Well, that’s it, that’s done.*

Most soldiers in the entire world agree on at least one thing, it is discouraged to volunteer. For others, the question doesn’t even arise since they are not given a choice, they are designated volunteers by default. Today, being a soldier of the Big Red One, the 1st Infantry Division of the United States Army, means belonging to an American unit that has been part of every major, contemporary conflict since World War I. A non-stop, century-long shit-show… It commands respect.

The morning of June 6, 1944, was not the first time the Big Red One faced the German army. Since October 23, 1917 — the date on which the first American shell was fired in World War 1 (from a Big Red One gun, nonetheless) — the division was in every battle against Germany (Imperial or Nazi, it doesn’t matter, we’re not going to quibble): Cantigny, Picardy (where it achieved the first American victory in the conflict), Saint-Mihiel, Aisne, Argonne, and later landings in North Africa, Tunisia (taking a beating at Kasserine, all the same), Sicily, Normandy, the Ardennes, to finally go and carry the iron to the heart of the filthy beast because even the best things come to an end.

Between November 8, 1942, and the end of World War 2, the Big Red One will have left more than 20,000 of its boys behind, either killed, wounded, missing or imprisoned. Sixteen of its soldiers will have received the Medal of Honor.

A beach to take? Nazis to kill? Look no further, it is the Big Red One that you need.
