At least (from a comment in French)

– Aviation : Stuka lost anti-aircraft and cost to 55 (if cost was 60 as I recall)

– Snipers decoys got letters

– Heroic Platoon GE : Sturmgrupp got scout 3 (but not Sthaler), not sure if cost changed

I have to say, that the GE heroic platoon leaders name irks me: Sthaler is not a proper german name, is it?


I think it really should be Stahler.


This is supposed to be a joyful occasion. Lets not bicker and argue about who killed who.

I find a company with the name Sthaler on the net, also US immigration

records of people named Sthaler hailing from Poland and Austria

(some people's names did get altered when they entered the US, though).


This Website on German surnames yields an explanation for Stahler but nothing for Sthaler.

Stahler : blacksmith, proficient in making steel (Stahl)


If the character in the game is a tough nut to crack, this name might well be quite appropriate.


Stalin (man of steel) might not approve though…

p.22 Composition of the Combat Group

Maybe a picture of an officer's playing piece with an arrow pointing at the stars might be added close to the frame. If they have room that is.

Rulebook page 24: description of ammo gear option, it is stated that ammo counter grants +1 bonus to combat value. In the compendium ammo counter grants +1 to combat value only when firing against infantry but in HoS ammo counter might add a bonus also when firing against both light and heavy vehicles. I am not sure if it is the rule change or an error.

Stug III F, a second "yellow" weapon has very odd attack bonuses and no "machine gun" ability.


Also, Stug III F was armed with the 7.5cm StuK40 L/43. This gun was almost as powerful as KwK40 L/48 mounted on Panzer IV H and Stug IV from HoN and definitely had better armour piercing capabilities than 50 mm cannon on panzer III. http://www.tanks-encyclopedia.com/ww2/nazi_germany/Sturmgeschutz-III.php


No reason for Stug III to have only +3 bonus against heavy vehicles rather than + 4. Of course, there are two reasons: gameplay and balance, so the most important:) .

"…on the morrow" is a perfectly valid (if a bit archaic by American current standards) way to say "the next day". I do not know its current usage in UK English but in any case, it is valid.

While the +1 icon is clearly vs. Infantry (it is the same style icon as the Combat Value vs. infantry on every token in the game), it is probably a good idea to be clear about that in the description, just in case.

It is clear for somebody that owns a compendium and played HoN but IMHO it will be confusing for new players. It was even confusing for me! Because in HoBR ammo token applies to every attack.:)

p. 6 The line just above the Forced Moves pull-out should say


You can find the detailed descriptions in "Chapter 5: Special Abilities."


p. 13, the Back side of the Sd.Kfz 251/1 should not have the German army symbol on it.


p. 17 Opportunistic Fire should be:

To match the rest of the usage in the rulebook., oh and on the subject of that…


p. 27 Forced Move


Opportunisty Fire should be Opportunity Fire.


p. 20 Scout


However, it must not end its movement in a square adjacent to an objective (primary, secondary or bonus) or in the area of the objective (for example a building).


The "or bonus" should be removed, there are no bonus objectives in HoSta.


p. 21 SELECTED CARD EXPLANATIONS


Go Go Go! is the American version of the card. The Russian version is March!

Actually, I would write it as:

Good catch, but unit B should be Unit B (capitalize the word Unit)

Although I think the Aircraft rules are fine being left out of the core rules since they are not included in the box and are in any case just a unit with some special rules from a mechanics point of view.


However, that does not apply to Customizations. Mariya has a customization slot, but there are no customization options in the core box, although there are some in BP1 (and other HSTS products). However, for those that start their experience with the HoSta box, they need the core rules of how customizations work.


The info in BP1 only describes the customizations included, now the rules for who can use them, how you recruit them, etc.


Suggestion for p. 25:


Customization Options

A Customization is a special recruitment option that can only be used by characters. They can be support, gear, or character traits. If the customization gives makers (such as grenades), their use is limited to the number of markers.

Customizations that give one or more markers can benefit any unit in your army if the option is on a Command Tile.


Important: Some characters have slots that can take Customization Options, but none are included in the Heroes of Stalingrad box. There are additional expansions that can include Customization Options that those characters can employ in custom scenarios.

Special Abilities

Some customizations simply gift the character with a new special ability. That ability is considered to be printed on the character's counter and is lost if the unit is Destroyed. Such an ability cannot be used during an Alternate Firing Action.


Ranged Weapons

These customizations provide an Alternate Firing Action. Some also grant special abilities that are available only when making the Alternate Firing Action.


Melee Weapons

If a weapon grants the Assault special ability, it replaces the character's usual weapon if the option's bonus is higher. Any other special abilities on a weapon add to the character's existing abilities.
